ICE HOCKEY

With an illustrious coaching career spanning over three decades, Bill Kangas has been at the helm of the Ephs at Williams College for more than 30 seasons, amassing a remarkable 415 career wins. Named the New England Div. 2/Div. 3 Coach of the Year in 1991, Coach Kangas continues to etch his legacy.

Coach Kangas holds the title of the winningest hockey coach in Williams history. His leadership has propelled his teams to NCAA Tournaments and his influence extends beyond the rink having served on the selection committee and coached numerous All-Americans.

A 1982 graduate of the University of Vermont with a bachelor of arts in zoology, Kangas's achievements extend beyond coaching. He was honored with the Wasson Award as the top men's senior student-athlete at UVM and later earned a Master's in Education from North Adams State College in 1994.

ON & OFF IcE TRAINING

Our 2024 Ice Hockey program takes place during Session 2 (July 7-19). Campers will have training on-ice as well as off-ice, honing their skills with high level and focused drills. This summer, campers will be skating at Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Rink in North Adams. Lunch will be served at the rink on ice days. In the afternoon, campers will return to Berkshire to take part in our traditional summer camp elective and evening activity programming.

On Dry Land days, campers will participate in off-ice drills at the Berkshire School. Individual video assessment, development and skill teaching will also take place at Berkshire during off-ice sessions.

ICE HOCKEY SKILLS

Our Ice Hockey program focuses on improving an athlete’s skill in precise puck handling, accurate shooting, and effective defensive strategies. We place a strong emphasis on fostering a strategic team dynamic that promotes seamless coordination and tactical play on the ice.

  • Dynamic Skating Mastery

    Achieve proficiency in powerful and efficient skating, focusing on stride length, agility, and speed to excel on the ice.

  • Precision Stickhandling Techniques

    Refine stickhandling skills through targeted drills, mastering control and maneuverability with the puck.

  • Shooting Mechanics

    Develop pinpoint accuracy and maximize shot velocity by refining shooting techniques, including wrist shots, slap shots, and snapshots.

  • Tactical Positional Play

    Learn the strategic art of effective positioning on the ice, understanding defensive and offensive strategies to outsmart opponents.

  • Goaltending Excellence Training

    Enhance essential techniques such as proper positioning, rebound control, and quick reflexes to become a formidable presence between the pipes.
